Dear Little League Families:

Spring is visiting today and based on the weather report it is going to be a short stay.  With that said the Riverside Little League season is to start a bit later than planned.  The League would like to get everyone at least 1 outdoor practice before play starts.  Your player’s coaches will get you the latest schedules.

Below are some topics that need review as the season gets started.

Background Checks

RLL runs background checks on all the managers, coaches and board members.  We know that many parents like to help out at games and practices.  If you are going to do this please complete a background check.  Please contact Mike Murphy(  ) to get access to the background check.

Player Safety

  • There is NO ON DECK CIRCLE in Little League.  Players are to remain in the dugout until it is their turn to bat.

  • There must be at least ONE manager or coach in the dugout at all times. If a team only has a manager and one coach at the game then one of them must stay in the dugout and a player (wearing a helmet) must coach a base.  A maximum of 1 Manager and 2 Coaches are allowed on the field of play.

  • Boys should wear protective cups.  Catchers must wear protective cups.  Sliding shorts are greatly encouraged for softball and baseball players.

  • All bats used in Baseball, Pee Wee and Tee Ball must have the USA Baseball sticker or imprint on them. NO EXCEPTIONS.

  • All teams will be provided with a couple of approved bats.  More info can be found here.

Little League District Teams

  • RLL creates what are known as Little League Tournament teams at the end of each season.  RLL has baseball softball teams at the 9-10, 10-11, 11-12, and 13-14 levels.

  • These teams and coaching staffs are chosen in early June by the coaching staffs of each level in conjunction with the RLL Board.

  • To be eligible for the team a player must compete in 60% of his or her teams REGULAR season games.

  • Only play within RLL determines who makes the tournament team. Riverside Little League is not now nor ever has been affiliated with a club or travel baseball or softball programs. So feedback based on play in other organizations is not considered for selection.

  • Players, managers and coaches behavior during the season is part of the selection criteria as RLL.

General Thoughts

  • Your kids are playing a game.

  • Cheer for the good plays.

  • Support your player’s team as well as the other team.

  • Do not show displeasure with an umpire’s call. Without the umps there are no games.

  • If you do like how something is done – VOLUNTEER

  • Have suggestions or concerns send an email to

RLL has an FAQ on its website.  More info can be found there.

The RLL Board looks forward to a great season,

Rick Collins, President
Riverside Little League
