Thursday, 28 July Riverside Little League Update

Riverside 10/11 District Team Falls 12 – 4 to Elmhurst Wednesday Night

Pittsfield, IL:  A great run for the Riverside 10/11 District Team ended last night as they were eliminated from the 2016 Illinois Little League State Tournament.  They go back to Riverside with a 3rd place trophy in a tournament began on 5 July with a couple hundred teams.

They are to be commended for their great play, attitude and sportsmanship.  The Coaches worked tirelessly to get this team to the State Tournament for a second year in row – a feat rarely accomplished.  The parents are also to be recognized for their commitment to Riverside Little League, the players and the coaches.  Not easy.

The Pike County Little League President said “It was a pleasure to have your kids, coaches and fans in Pike County.”  He also said that never have they seen a group of fans eat more pork chop sandwiches than the Riverside fans.

Word from the Hannibal, Missouri (home base for the Riverside fans) Chamber of Commerce indicates the Riverside families have had a great effect on the town’s hospitality industry and are thinking of naming a street O’D Way.  Or was it Durkin Drive.  Time will tell.

It is known that this team is not finished and plan on making a run to Williamsport next year.  Opening Day is just 267 days away. They will be ready.

Again congratulations to the team and coaches.
